Saying Goodbye

I took for granted that because he was the littlest it would be the easiest for him to say goodbye. I was wrong. This was his protest today. It was his last day of playschool, and he did not want to leave. When we said it was time to go, he laid down on this pillow in the circle time area and would not get up. We tread lightly and let him lay there on that pillow as long as he wanted to, until he was ready to get up. He is going to miss having this fun place to play and be a wild, funny little boy. He is well loved there and pretty popular, and, so i am told, a pretty fun little guy to have around. I would have to agree. I think he is pretty wonderful. There has been some crying about saying goodbye, and nothing will break this mommy down faster, since i feel so much of the same. I get it. I just did not think he would, for some reason. I suspect that there will be some more crying and some middle of the night wake up calls and even nights spent in our bed both here and at the new house, but that is ok with me. i understand.

Visions into my World

I haven't got many words to share...i have just been busy getting ready for untold numbers of company this week for thanksgiving and sorting and packing for the move. Fortunately my lovely children are able to entertain themselves. And in the process they entertain me too! i get a good laugh as these little faces pop up in my day. Above is Avery posing just because she is Avery.
Here they are preparing for a round of breakdancing...i love Averys big sunglasses and this is Mitch's current choice for breakin' gear.
here they had decided to have a little tea party together...it got me at least a half hour of quiet.
Mitchell got dressed up to take part in our classwork this day. He is a very astute little professor. I dig those glasses, which were once the actual glasses of my mother.

I am still here!

These are what i have been working on this week. I sort of set the sewing machine aside for a little bit to try out some of my new knitting skills, amateur as they may be. These are the yarns i showed before that i knew were destined for fingerless gloves and here they are. My sweet little model wore the adult ones so they are a little large for her. I will be making her a matching pair, by request, soon. What i loved the best about these was that they did not involve double pointed needles or knitting in the round, since that was way too complicated for me.

Life

not feeling so bloggy lately. There is not much to blog these days anyway. We are just trying to live as normal a life as we can before it goes all topsy turvy with moving. Which is my least favorite thing to do, even though i do it a lot. I tell my Avery all the time that she needs to be flexible and able to deal with life, but honestly that is like the pot calling the kettle black(as my mom would say), because i don't handle it well. I am not good at those things. There is so much up in the air right now...it is hard to be grown up.

***i did not really mean for this to sound like such a downer. Sorry. this is just how we are feeling around here right now and i thought i would share what i am really feeling instead of just posting a craft or something silly the kids did. And yes, there will be more of that soon. This too shall pass.***

Recipe Box Swap

I have been enjoying the recipe box swap on Randi's blog for some time now. It is fun to see what others are making. This months theme was anything goes! So i thought i would add something we have been making around here a lot since the weather cooled... Apple Crisp!
I got one of my kitchen assistants(Avery) and we got started. I love the apple peeler/corer/slicer I just got. It makes getting those apples ready in about 5 minutes flat! Then Avery cut the butter into the crumb topping.
She patted it into place and got it ready to go in the oven. 45 minutes is a long time when you are waiting for this!! Now you can make it too Dee!!
Apple Crisp

4-5 medium apples
3/4 c. rolled oats
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. flour
1 t. cinnamon
1 stick butter

heat oven to 350. spray a 9 or 10 in pie plate. peel and slice your apples, or cut evenly. Spread in pan.Mix oats, sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Cut softened butter in with fork or pastry cutter. Sprinkle over the apples. Bake it for 45min. Enjoy!!

Knitting Fantasies

What do you want to bet that these lovelies are going to end up in my WIP pile? I have grand plans(as usual), and high hopes for learning this new skill, but maybe i should be real with myself. I have two left hands, so to speak, when it comes to this knitting stuff. I am still going to try. The teal green color is planned to be fingerless gloves for myself. My family can vouch for the fact that i keep a pretty cold house and fingerless gloves would be really handy. The dark multi is self striping sock yarn. If i get even one sock done, do you think i will get its partner made? Socks are no good unless they are a pair. And the pretty pinks and oranges is just pretty. That is the only reason i bought it. No plans.
And how cute are these little things? I crocheted acorns!! We had the tops in a jar from a nature walk months ago...and i saw this quick tutorial on making them, so i thought i would give them a try today. You really can't make just one. I think the kids will have fin playing with them.

Time Travel

When i was going through the picture box looking for pictures of me and my sis I found these. This is my sweet, dear, old(old as in time not as in age!!) friend Deanna. We have known one another since we were little tiny girls, i think we were 3 and 4. We live far apart now but we wish we lived close! That counts for something right?
Somehow we manage to still be close even though time passes and distance keeps us apart. She is wonderful. Trust me you wish she was your friend too! We grew up together and were silly all the time. We were taking the kids to the zoo when we were nannies in this picture above, but ummm where are the kids?
In fact my husband says that when we are together, which rarely happens, we act like a couple of silly carefree teenagers. I take that as a compliment. Friendship is forever, especially the goofy kind!!!
i could not dream up a better friend than her. i know you are reading this Dee and i just wanted to tell you that i love you and miss you. Many years can pass but you can't shake me!! Thank you for talking when i have something to say and/or when neither of us has anything to say at all. You are the best therapist out there. I would owe you a fortune if i really had to pay you!
