For the longest time Kristen had me convinced that machine quilting was not quilting. :) Now I know better but you will have a special place in your heart for the hand quilt one because it took so long! I have watched lots of videos on You Tube of hand quilting, I would recommend checking some out if you have time.Kristinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17476114450800483839noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4248312190657604701.post-37393537815738181062012-03-02T10:38:37.081-05:002012-03-02T10:38:37.081-05:00It looks beautiful! The things I have hand quilted I used a thimble and "hoop" (mine was square) and did the rocking motion.
Enjoy the process!Suzannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04248225708958076103noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4248312190657604701.post-88762108443442131472012-03-02T08:12:50.950-05:002012-03-02T08:12:50.950-05:00I don't have any tips but I love it, too!I don't have any tips but I love it, too!Tara Celestehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11260513005442173804noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4248312190657604701.post-48499538174825769662012-03-01T22:32:37.699-05:002012-03-01T22:32:37.699-05:00It looks great! I'm impressed that you're going with hand quilting.

I haven't done a lot of it myself, but I do use thread heaven when I have to stitch bindings and I bet it would be great for quilting too. It makes the thread more slick so it doesn't drag on the fabric and prevents knots. Maybe worth a shot!Kristahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02479408778852456062noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4248312190657604701.post-60793500365626766312012-03-01T22:31:00.091-05:002012-03-01T22:31:00.091-05:00I think I've given you all my advice already. ...I think I've given you all my advice already. I think Katie's advice on the tapered needle is a good idea and something to look into plus I use a metal thimble on my middle fingers on each hand too and wouldn't be able to quilt without them. Another thing I can't do without is a hoop although I know lots of people that don't use them. It's looking great by the way!Catherinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00831950066401909011noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4248312190657604701.post-31037060090649334142012-03-01T21:15:43.074-05:002012-03-01T21:15:43.074-05:00Chocolate? By main tip though would be to drape the quilt over the back of a dining chair, so that there's space for your hand to manouevre freely at the back of the quilt. So that when you put your hand behind the quilt, there's chair on one side of your hand and quilt on the other, instead of quilt all around, does that make sense? I find my wrist gets tired from battling against the weight of the quilt, plus I get too hot!Miss Beau Jangleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09138178039216313264noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4248312190657604701.post-84875642511103383392012-03-01T17:49:13.621-05:002012-03-01T17:49:13.621-05:00I don't like using a thimble b/c I can't f...I don't like using a thimble b/c I can't feel through it but I will put a bandage on my finger where the end of the needle keeps poking. My...I love to hand quilt, so I'd say go for it. My one piece of advice would be to use a finely tapered needle. Many have a short point and then almost immediately go to the shaft (is that what it's called?) If you use one that is more gradually tapered, you hand won't get as tired because you won't have to push so hard to get the needle through. It seems like a small thing, but when you're quilting a decent sized quilt, it can be e lifesaver!Katiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00307333354110021492noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4248312190657604701.post-63542375195526543912012-03-01T17:10:01.504-05:002012-03-01T17:10:01.504-05:00go for it! it looks great!go for it! it looks great!Erin @ Why Not Sew?
