When Wednesday's come around i always try to decide if i am feeling wordless or have i been crafty lately and do i have WIP's i can share. Mostly the answer is wordless, so i show you a cute picture of my kids. This week i have actual projects to share. Hooray!!!
I unearthed some of my Amy butler stash from the very bottom of the pile and put together this topper! I did it with strips(fast) but added the diagonals to make it a little more interesting. Husband thinks i should try to overcome my fear of FMQ and go for it. Do you think? Or hand quilting?
I have also been working on a baby quilt...it is a scrappy rail fence. I used the same fabrics i had in my fall table topper and just went for it...trimming as i went to get the right size and i really think i like how it came out. The blocks are trimmed to 6" making the quilt about 32"x40".
I think i will be backing it in minky to make it really cozy and a little more interesting, and then it is going to auction for my husbands work. I hope it finds a new happy home. :o(

Love that Amy Butler fabric. Swwooooon!
ReplyDeleteI too have a fear of FMQ so I'm not the right person to ask! I have, however, recently tried hand quilting and that was a lot of fun!
Like them both! I think you should just go for it and try FMQ. It's a small project so just the right size to start with. You just might love it!
ReplyDeleteI say overcome that fear and just go for it!! It's really quite fun!
ReplyDeleteGo for the FMQ! I loev those Amy Butler prints. Your scrappy rail fence will make someone very happy!!!
ReplyDeleteGo for it!! And then we want to see. =D
ReplyDeleteI say go for it!

go ahead, give FMQ a try - you can do it! :)
ReplyDeleteGoodness I can't decide...handquilting a table topper wouldn't take long but then it's also the perfect size to practice FMQ. Sorry not much help from me. Lovely bright fabrics in your baby quilt btw :-)
ReplyDeleteI can't decide either. Hand quilting is great and relaxing. But how often do your have the opportunity to try FMQ on a small project. I'd say go for the FMQ... Think ;)
ReplyDeleteAmy Butler classic! Go for the FMQ...practice on a scrap sandwich first. You'll be great!
ReplyDeleteKudos for a charity quilt that is so pretty!
Love your blog...even if I don't post a comment all the time. You're one of my favorites!
Go for the FMQ!! Especially on something small - a great place to start.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors in your baby quilt. So vibrant and lively!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Angela, give the FMQ a try! Love all the scrappiness in your rail fence quilt!
ReplyDeleteDon't fear fmq, it is so fun. Just go for it - it is really a matter of relaxing and practicing. Your projects are beautiful, you have chosen wonderful fabrics.
ReplyDeleteim a scaredy cat of fmq - but hand stitching has such a beautiful look, toss up, but eventually the plunge must be made to fmq'ing! haha
ReplyDeleteGo for it!!! It is best to start on a small project anyway. Although hand quilting is always beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI heart the rail fence. What fun colors and fabrics and the minky will be the perfect finish.
I heart Amy Butler so much! Love the baby quilt and am sure it will find a wonderful home. Go for the FMQ, you`ll love it!
ReplyDeleteEmbrace the FMQ, it'll totally make it :o)
ReplyDeletePretty projects. Definitely try FMQ!
ReplyDeleteMy husband wants to see me do hand quilting.
ReplyDeleteI can't machine quilt on my $60 Wal Mart machine and I hand tie everything.
Go for it! FMQ isn't as hard as it looks. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the scrappy rail fence!
ReplyDeleteI, also, am not much of a FMQer - I usually get someone else to put it all together, but I've been contemplating some straight lines of late...how hard can it be?
Good luck, and I'm sure it'll be wonderful whatever you decide!
I really like the railfence baby quilt and yes, go for the FMQ!! Practice will make it seem more and more natural!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the orange one!!!!
ReplyDeleteCute stuff! Especially the rail fence quilt, love your fabric choices. Thanks for linking up to WIP Wednesday. : )
ReplyDeleteOh such pretty Amy Butler fabric!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great, and that Amy Butler pile of fabrics looks great!
ReplyDeleteGive FMQ a try! If you need instructions or inspirations check out the "Free-motion quilting project", she has videos for each stitch. You could cut out pieces of fabric, try out the different designs and then turn them into coasters, pot holders, or even patch them together for a table runner of their own! I think you can do it!!!
