In the spirit of the season....and the hopeful defeat of the Navy football team....i am making a big pot of Gluhwein, pronounced, glue-vine, to take to a party this afternoon.
Start with 3-4 bottles of Gluhwein. It is a pre spiced, mulled type of wine in either red or white that you can get in most liquor or grocery stores during the holiday season. You can see we used red today. If you can not find actual Gluhwein you can use any cheap white or red wine as your base. Pour it all in a large stockpot. Add 2-3 cinnamon sticks, a palmful of whole cloves and 2-3 sliced lemon and oranges. Now add a 1/4 c. sugar per bottle and a half. Today i used three bottles, therefore i added a 1/2c. sugar. Stir and let this simmer on low for about 1 hour. Be sure not to let this boil. Not good for the wine. And measurements are not exact, make it to your taste!!!Strain this over a crockpot to get all the large and small pieces out. Just set your crockpot on low and enjoy.

YUMMY! What brand did you buy and did you buy it at the Commissary/Class Six? The stuff here is good! It's good that you mentioned cheap wine, because that's what they do here too! Hope you're doing well. I'm about to make a snowflake like you guys did. Once I make one, then the girls can make them! Have a great weekend!
Go Navy beat Army or is it Go Army beat Navy? With both an Army and Naval officer in the family I don't know who to root for. Oh my. I think I prefer Ed Hardy's Sangria if you please.
Oh yum! We're having a party tonight and making mulled wine. I'm not a big drinker, but I love that stuff! :)
i prefer to stay neutral in the army/navy battle lol neutral like Switzerland.
Have fun Leslie!
Go Navy! Hope the gluhwein made the loss a little easier on everyone. I think I'll make that on the solstice and enjoy all day.
I was wondering how you and Colleen made it through this yearly battle. :) who won?
I remember having it in Austria at Christmas time. I should try it.
too bad it didn't bring us good luck, but I bet it was delish!
Remember, Don't Drink and Quilt, your lines will go all wonky and meandering, stippling-like, ahhaha! I wonder if stippling would go better drunk.. hmm. My fingers probably wouldn't agree.
Cheers,
Christine
