Tasting Nostalgia

When i was a little girl there was a market that my parents took us to called Adam's. Whenever we went my Dad, who definitely appreciates things that are not the norm as food goes, would always buy wasa crisp bread and strawberry cream cheese.
Today i was there at Adam's with my Dad and we were casually strolling through all the aisles when i looked over and saw the box of wasa. i mentioned this childhood memory to Dad and promptly placed the wasa in my cart. I now needed that cream cheese to make the memory complete. I was on a mission.
As soon as we got home i told the kids that this was a special moment...they had to be very quiet while i prepared a food memory. I took that first bite with lots of anticipation and it did not let me down. It took me right back in time to when i was little like Avery. I loved it then and i still love it now. And that food love was passed down to my kids today. Their faces look just as mine did when i ate it.
Isn't it interesting how memories and food are intertwined...or smells of foods? It is a single experience, it is only the first time you re-create it that it tastes like a different time. Has anyone else had one of these experiences?

Oh yeah, I love those moments! They are so rare and wonderful. A couple of mine are red cream soda (from the summer of '78, at the public pool when I was in grade school), and the mixed smell of laundry and cooking pinto beans (pretty much every saturday morning of my childhood). I wonder what our kids will remember??

yum! I have some strawberry CC in my fridge, I'll have to get some wasa. They are also awesome with scrambled eggs on them. My mom introduced me to that :) For whatever reason, the combination tastes like there's about a stick of butter on there. When I was preggers with Zoe, I'd have wasa w/ cheesy scrambled eggs, canadian bacon & tobasco almost every morning.

Oh, wow, Leslie! I totally forgot that memory, but now I can almost taste it. Yum.
Hey... you didn't happen to pick up any tea while you were there? Maybe?

How cute! I remember loving choke cherries as I found them bitter sweet, but when I had my kids taste them they all spit them out and thought I was pulling a fast one!
I still love choke cherries to this day!

For sure - every time I have a sugar snap pea in the spring I can see the little garden behind my grandparent's house where we would pick them off the vine, sit on an old board, and eat them right in the sun.

They say that smells trigger the most powerful memories.

Leslie, first of all, your kids are beautiful, Avery and Mitchell look very happy enjoying your old memory. I love strawberry cream cheese but not sure about the wasa crackers! LOL
