As usual, i am behind on posting in time to be included in the official Parade of Quilts, hosted by Camille and Carrie. I have been thinking a lot lately about posting my first quilt, even before i saw this parade coming. It has been a long time since i finished it and if i look too close i cringe a little....because there is definitely a learning curve when it comes to quilting.
I have a wonderful friend who taught me all she knew about quilting. She had a beautiful crib size rail fence quilt like this one in her living room(even in the same colors) and i always admired it. One day she offered to help me learn. We went to the fabric store and begin choosing fabric. It was that day that i knew fabric was going to be my favorite part...i love putting them together. I did not foresee what this little quilt and a love for fabric would become.
It lives in my living room still. i love it even with all its imperfection. I pieced the whole thing by machine and then hand quilted it. In the future i hope i learn to take more risks with fabric and piecing...and along the way i have learned how valuable precise cutting is as well as a consistent 1/4 inch seam.
These are my last finished projects, one of the things the official parade asked for us to show....a quilt for a friends new baby and a bonnet for my girl.

I totally agree about the quilting learning curve! Your first quilt is so cute, though. I've never made a rail fence. I love your latest projects too, especailly that cute bonnet!
hey! thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving such nice comments. :)
i really like your latest quilt. i love the simplicity of the patterned squares alternating with the white. i'm planning to do something similar with a couple charm packs coming up.
I think each quilt we makes marks a point in our personal history. I really love your first quilt because it has a story to it. Your latest quilt is so nice I agree with Nicole there's just something about those brighter colours and white together. and Your daughter and her bonnet a gorgeous, I miss the days when my girls would excitedly wear what I made them.
thanks for visiting my blog! it was fun seeing your first and last quilts too--actually, both are really pretty!
I really like your latest quilt! I hear ya on the cringe factor of the first quilt, except yours looks a lot better than my first. I think I'll have to get some cherries now, your other post looks yummy!

Leslie, thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving such a nice comment. I love reading them as you do! Love your quilts. That first one always holds a special place in our hearts! I saw that you are in NY and your husband is an Army officer/ college instructor. Are you possibly at West Point? My husband graduated from there in 95. He did 7 years active duty and has now been in the civilian world for 7 years. He was a Captain when we left the Army. It was a great life but we chose a different path. All the best to you and your family. Stop back at my blog anytime! ~Lori
