I told them to go and collect up a few small toys and animals....we added in some marbles and corks from my collections and a few kitchen utensils...
they played for ages....making messes...and pretending to clean things. Avery thought that it felt weird. It does!
I think it must have taken up at least an hour or more of time that they could not be outside because of the rain storms. It was a stretch for me. I am not a fan of messy play but we tried to contain it as best we could and they loved it. And i felt like i scored some cool mom points with them!!

yes. I bet you DID get a lot of "mom points"! Great job!
Looks like fun! Such a good mom! :)
Yes you definitely get cool Mom points! I can remember doing this when my daughter was about 2. She didn't really like messy play but loved this.
Yep...if i was a kid you'd have gotten big time cool mama points! never got to do this kinda stuff when I was a kid...I think my mom was just too stressed out!
Wow - that's quite creative. I know with my little ones it's really hard to keep things interesting while they're stuck indoors. I don't think I'll be able to go down your route just yet though - my little ones are only 1 and 3.
I want to do that!!
That's wild, and I admire your positive attitude.
I remember when my daughter and her baby were living at my house, and my daughter said that she had read that you should let your baby 'explore' their food to see what different textures are all about. She gave her all kinds of things on the tray of her high chair, and I was just cringing as glops fell and flew ! ! !
Yikes !
Hoping for sunny days, and rainy adventures for all of you !
I love it! I need to try this with Vada. Maybe outside, or in the bathtub. ;-)
So fun! I used to do this with my kindergartners- each child would get a squirt and then we'd trace some letters, numbers whatever. Eventually a sponge would go around to help with clean up and I'd be left with educated kids, clean hands, sparkly tables and a fresh smelling room- win win win win!
What a cool idea! And how EASY! Just gave them shaving cream and said, "here, have a ball!" ??
I would have never thought of it, but it looks like it worked!!
I love this idea!
What a fabulous idea!! Hmm . . now I just need a rainy day!
That is tons of fun! I still remember my mom letting us do this on rainy days...
Jennifer :)
great rainy day idea!
What a great past time activity - you are a COOL Mom!
I'm going to try this with my kids, too! Except that we won't be doing it when it's raining, since it never rains here. No, we'll be trying it on one of those days where they actually warn us that it's too hot to go outside. Sigh. Oh well, my kids are going to love it regardless!
oh...that looks fun..eventhought it is slightly messing..to keep kids at home we need to try all these extereme hobbies..lol...love your kids...
