Uh-oh!

I think i might be in for it. This is Avery designing a quilt. I would say her first but she has been awfully helpful on my last few and she has already sewn one of her own. Anyway...she came to me one night and asked for a piece of graph paper like i used for making quilt patterns. I gave first and asked second.
She explained that she wanted to make a plan for another quilt. When i went to the table to check on her she was already writing out instructions, size specifications and was well along in drawing the picture of what she wanted it to look like.
Now I have the bonus challenge of making another quilt on top of the 4(or8) that i already have in the works. Also if you look carefully at her design you will see circles on top of squares...oh no...i am deathly afraid of applique. It is the vast unknown of quilting for me. Otherwise it is a pretty uncomplicated affair. She has particular color instructions, brown and pink. SO we raided the mommy stash and have found some acceptable fabrics....now the pressure is on!!!
It is like a two edged sword...i am thrilled that she is enjoying what i do, but so worried about making it work for her.

great job Avery - and I love the brown/pink color choices. Wish I could raid your mom's fabric stash for a quilt :) Oh, and Leslie, guess what my word verification is... leslyzed! Maybe they're personalizing them now.

egad i hear ya! what an impressive kid though. i am thinking circles on squares is pretty hard (how do you make a circle? maybe slice the edges?? yikes!) maybe you can make a simple log cabin type thing? hmmm that might not be simple. maybe reverse applique? where you cut a circle in the square to reveal the pattern below? now you have ME trying to figure it out! ha ha!! you can do it!!! yeah les!!

Avery,
I am so proud of you to design your own quilt. Can't wait to see it.
Leslie, what a great job of bringing up creative children. I think she will continue to surprise you

For the circles in squares, a neat interpretation that may be somewhat easier is fabric yoyos. there's tons of tuts for those on the web, and you and she might really enjoy making them. just applique the yoyos to the patches.

just a thought...

ya, i'm with you on that one! my girls do this all the time- i'm thrilled that they are lovely designers but when it's left to me for execution it's usually a problem! that's when i usually turn to my mom- who has more time and patience!

I'm giggling at that post - designing a quilt that will push you past your quilting fears. What an impressive young lady and sure to be an excellent quilter like her mom.
