Sew and Tell Friday

I DID IT!!! not only do i have a finish for sew and tell today but this is also the quilt that is going to be auctioned at Chris work. This quilt was pieced and made long before i started blogging...so it has to have been sitting in my WIP pile for 2 plus years. It was my first try at a stack and wack quilt. When it was done i knew i loved it.
But it has been around for sometime so i am not as attached to it as i used to be. So i conceded and finished it for this auction. I sure hope that it goes for a decent amount otherwise i might be really disappointed. I know that i usually give them away and don't put a price on them, so this is strange to me. i think a little part of me hopes nobody wants it so that i can still keep it. It was hard to get good pictures of it because it was a very cloudy day. The border is brown with turquoise dots....there are greens, blues, purple, brown, oranges...nothing that i would ordinarily put together...but i was immediately drawn to it when i saw the fat quarter pack all together.
It is a large crib size or a small lap size..which ever way you want to look at it. I quilted it with straight lines and concentric rectangles. This is going to be hard to give up. If you were putting something like this in an auction what kind of starting bid do you think you would put on it? Now...that all that is said....go over to Amy's and check out what everyone else finished this week. I know there are lots of great things.

yay for you! I love it. I especially love the border! Hey, is it normal to get a jelly roll with a completely unusable strip in it? One of the yellow strips in mine is not the right size (it's only about 2" wide at the widest part, and then tapers down to about 1/2" at the other end). I hope that isn't normal, because I was counting on using every last one of them... Grrr... So much for staying up all night working on my quilt :(

I can see why you'll have a hard time parting with it... It's lovely! Those colours work so well together! I'd recommend starting low (maybe?)... that way more people will bid because they'll think its in their price range, then as the bids get higher, more people will be attached to the idea of buying it so they'll get into the bidding frenzy and want to win! Let us know how it gets on!

That's a really cool-looking quilt, Leslie ! You young people are really stretching this old quilting gal.......and that's a good thing. Gotta get out of my rut !

I'd cry if it went for less than $65.00. I'd want it to start at $125., but I don't have a lot of experience with auctions. Many years ago, I had crocheted baskets go far below what I wanted, and have never tried it again........of course, that was when I was selling them for myself. Charity auctions can be generous, because people want to give anyway, and then the idea of getting something for their contribution might just drive them a little deeper into their pockets !

I love the colors! I would have a hard time with the auctioning too!

When is the auction? You have made another outstanding quilt Leslie!!! The colors work well together. I'm drawn by the uneven pieces and how you quilted it. Love it!!

Great finish! I really love the way you quilted it - the quilting complements youe pieceing perfectly. I am going to be making a couple of auction quilts after the new year, and I have no idea how it will go. Good luck with yours!

My husband wanted to know why I was saying "Oooooooooooooo". I think it's gorgeous. It really appeals to something in the soul. I don't think you'll have to worry about it selling!

I love the combination of colours - I'd have a hard time parting with it if it were me. I agree with Lara's comment above - I would start the bidding lowish and watch it take off.

Truly wonderful quilt! Hope it won't be too hard to give away, and I am sure it will go to a good home! For tons of money, of course... :))

Great quilt!!! I am sure it will do well in the auction. I would bid on it if I were there. I love all the colors and the way you pieced and quilted it. Is that a butterfly or dragonfly I see in the fabric? Love it. Good luck with the auction. You'll have to report back.

This quilt looks great! I like the colors! It is very generous of you given this quilt for auction. One of my goal is making a quilt and give to charity or auction. I'd hope I can make it happen before i reach 30+2! Thanks for sharing~ i also love the new fat quarter you acquired recently. They are so pretty!

It's really awesome! I can't wait to hear how much it went for at the auction. I bet it's more than you think. :-)

of all the quilts lol... I love this quilt but you already knew that. I agree with the person above that said that it appeals to the soul. I would certainly bid on it. It looks like a piece of beautiful abstract art. I really love it and I think the people at the auction will love it too! <3

oh my! That is gorgeous, dear friend! I LOVE the colors. I am VERY impressed that you are giving this away... my mom always said that parting with a quilt would be like giving a child away... I suspect the quilts would have been harder for her :)

Wow! First stack and whack looks great! I'm a little intimidated to do one myself so Congrats on finishing!!

I love this quilt and colors. I found your blog while surfing the net. But how did you get the snowlakes in your pictures? I haven't seen that before.
