I have recently won some really fun things from a couple blogs i love to read.
Cathy at Quilting on Turtle Hill makes these gorgeous handmade Waldorf dolls...right down to the cutest little outfits. She had a giveaway on her blog and the winner got to choose what she wanted her doll to look like...so this sweet little girl is a combination of her ideas and mine. Cute, right? Thank you so much Cathy, she fits right in here at our house. Go have a look at her other dolls, here. Cathy, does she have a name?
I also had the pleasure of winning these cute little baby shoes from Beth of Wee Pereas. She makes them herself and sells them in her etsy shop. I think they are just going to get stashed away in case we need them for a gift down the road. They are surely too small for Avery.
Thanks so much ladies. It was so fun to get these packages this week.

I Knew This Day Was Coming
The day Mitchie lost his first tooth. The day he stopped being a baby. Cause you can't really be a baby anymore after you have lost a tooth. It marks some moment in time when everything starts to change. He was brave and let me pull it, and was very excited that the tooth fairy came last night and left him some money.

Transformation
He went from this....above
to this!!!! the neighbors don't even recognize him!!
He has had a big boy haircut before but nothing like this one. He was so hot and sweaty that i just felt bad. The wet hair in the first pictures is sweat not water. He should not suffer because i did not want to part with his hair! So daddy barber took over and we got a new kid in a matter of minutes. Now they look more alike than ever. Pay no mind to the crazy eyes on the boy...good pictures are impossible.Friday, May 28, 2010
Ho Ho Ho...!?!?
I have slowed way way down on fabric buying. There is so much out there that i love(like this and this and this to name a few) but i am so unmotivated to sew and my output is so low right now that i can not justify it. But this one fabric has been on my mind for quite awhile...12 Days of Christmas by Kate Spain. I know, Colleen(my sister)...me buying Christmas fabric....what?!?!?!
I have in the past, mocked and gagged and rolled my eyes a little at Christmas fabric...or really any holiday or season specific fabric. Sorry! Don't be offended if you love them. It is me not you! I know that there are lots of beautiful seasonal fabrics out there made by super talented designers...and more than that there are so many beautiful quilts and other things made by great fabric artists and super talented sewers. I just can't, or should say, couldn't do it. Until i saw this line of Christmas fabric. With this, i was converted!!!
I bought the 10 inch layer cake, so it is planned to be a simple quilt. Just gonna mix them up, maybe let Avery lay it all out for me. You can stop laughing now Colleen.

Camping 101
The truth is, this girl has not slept in the woods for about 11 years. i know, that is a long time. Not since the great girls camp out of 1999. Some of you readers are die hard campers i am sure...got it all down to a science...but i have to be honest, it scares me a little! I don't really take to it naturally. Let's start with the bugs. Oh my goodness, there were so many bugs.
We had hot dogs on the BBQ...there was another lesson in this for Mitchell...how to make fire with charcoal...hmmm, that was two lessons in making fire for a 5 year old, in one day. this might not be good!
Now for those of you who do not know my husband...he is a techie genius!!! He loves his technology and gadgets so if you look close in the bottom left of this above picture you can see he does not go far without it. That is a portable solar panel he brought along to charge his i phone.
We were all good until bedtime when this tent became a den of tears for one little girl, terrified that there would be a bear. Whose little brother was not helping at all. Every time she would rationalize to herself how there was not going to be a bear he would come up with a reason to tell her why she was wrong about that...then the final zinger...as all the lights were out and everyone was tucked in he says quietly, "right, there won't be bears, but there might be snakes!". Thank goodness she did not hear him.
See what this little brother has in his hands...a creepy millipede. He sure looks like he is about to get up to no good with it. Surprise, she did not seem to mind! it might have ruined his fun a little.
As the sun was going down, Daddy thought it was time to make a campfire. SO out came the axe. Yup, that is a real axe he is holding. It is nearly as tall as he is. Chris really enjoyed getting to show him how to do all these outdoor things.
Avery even had a go with the axe. She approached it with some hesitation but i think she had fun trying. As the sun was going down, Daddy thought it was time to make a campfire. SO out came the axe. Blogger's Quilt Festival
When i was thinking about what quilt to enter into quilt festival i asked my husband which quilt did he like best. His vote was for my Wee Play quilt. It was definitely one of the ones in the running when i was trying to choose. So his vote it is!!!
I think my favorite thing about it is the way the colors are arranged! A little rainbow in your day is always in order. The quilting is just straight lines, about a 1/4 inch off the seams. It is simple but simple is what makes it beautiful.
Some of you, who have read my blogs before may recognize it. If you have not seen it before you can see it in progress with more pictures here, and here and finished here. And if you are here visiting from quilt festival please come and take a look at some of the other quilts i have made, here. Be sure to look at all the other links at Amy's blog....there are many and that can be overwhelming...take a few days if you have to, it will be so worth it. You will get loads of inspiration and you might find your new favorite quilting blog. I guarantee you that what you see will take your breath away!

Thrifty Fashion!!! Sew and Tell
about 2 weeks ago there was a big neighborhood yard sale. We are a pretty young neighborhood, but luckily some of the moms of the ladies who live here came and came with goodies!!! I found all of these vintage sheets and pillowcases all at one house. Pretty right?
Then this week i was blogging around, whilst hanging out with my couch, and i found this idea for a nightgown with a tutorial. I modified the tutorials a little and came up with this for Avery.
The bottom of the pillowcase with this scalloped detail is my favorite part. Those little raspberries on the fabric are so cute!
Sewing clothing is not my strong suit. With quilting i know all the steps to follow and what order to do them in...with clothes i get a little turned around , get stuck and then ask myself how am i supposed to do this? Since this is for sleeping i think it will do. The true test will be if she wears it for more than one night!!
**since this is the only significant sewing i have done in a really long while i am going to go ahead and link this up to this weeks edition of sew and tell at Amylouwho's. Say hello to all the ladies who made something wonderful this week**

I Promise
I know i have not been here lately.
Don't give up on me yet!
I promise i will be back in good time.
Sometimes life gives you other things you have to deal with before a blog and so that is what i am doing. Don't worry nothing is amiss we are all fine. I just have not sewn anything to share, cooked anything worth mentioning, and the kids and i have done nothing for fun or for school. We are just plugging on at the moment.
Will you still be here when i get back?
You all are the best!!!
