Strawberries, Round 2
Sooo, last night was jam night. Here are the results of my work. For anyone that has not made jam before and might think it is hard, really it is not. It is a time commitment once you start, because you literally can not walk away form that pot and you have to stir, stir, stir. I would have taken some pictures of the making but i was tied to the pot. No extra hands. This batch of jam was the first time in a few years of jamming that i finally decided to just relax and not stress myself out about it. Once everything is prepared i usually feel like a spaz trying to get everything done and done just right...last night i told myself to calm down and just enjoy the process. I really did and this time i did not make a mess or burn myself, thank goodness. It was nice to get it done so fast and smoothly, and all 9 jars sealed!!! All you need is 4 pints of berries, some pectin(I use sure-jel), some jars and sugar. Follow the directions in the box of sure-jel and "viola" you have jam. I think strawberry jam is my favorite.

Beth and I went to Lawrence Farms this morning. I had big plans to make jam too. I think we picked enough to maybe make strawberry shortcake for the 4 of us. We eeked out almost a quart of berries. Can you believe it?! They got hit with a frost last month and many rows were overtaken by a flowery weed. Disappointing.
Strawberry Jam is my favorite too... and yeah it was disappointing today... but I blogged about it anyways! It was still something fun to do - just mildly disappointing at the lack of strawberries.
You are fabulous! I just washed all my jars to make jam tomorrow... we think alike!!! It's so satisfying to see such a long term product after all that work though right?
it really is satisfying...what kind of jam are you going to be making this time around...
I've been so self-absorbed and so busy with traveling that I haven't taken the time to see what you've been up to. Now I'm all caught up and I'm glad I am. I wish I could be there to go strawberry picking. Yum... save me some jam! Looks like you've been having fun... love the pics of the kids on the tractor and Mitchie's rock and roll hair.
sister...i would be happy to give you some jam. Will you be coming by to get it? Any chance? If not, i will hang on to some for you. I think i also have some peach for you.
we have strawberry plants, I'll try that next year :)
