Family Project Night

We took a lot of time off of school with the move and the holidays. This whole past week has felt like we were getting nowhere fast....we had 5 things to cover but it was feeling like we were only managing one. Any other homeschool mom's know that feeling?
We are trying to get our "groove" back, so to speak. On top of all this we started a new science curriculum along with all our other changes, Apologia Astronomy. It has been great. I love that it has captured the attention of both Avery and Mitchell
Tonight we got Daddy involved as well while we tackled one of the chapter projects. I made the box, Daddy helped make the planets, Avery colored and Mitchie stuck the star stickers....and we made our very own solar system diorama. Ignore those boxes still hanging out in my kitchen.
They did such a great job and can you tell she is proud of the end result!
It is now lovingly displayed on top of one of our school shelves. And i hope that it will also serve as a learning tool as we move through the lessons and learn more about the other planets out there. If nothing else maybe i will finally memorize them in order. I have to admit i am bummed about Pluto...
I thought i would just stick this one on the end here....Mitchie loves looking through our history encyclopedia. It is a big book and he had a question or two for every page...we were there a very long time and it is still on my table waiting for tomorrow. What will he ask me next?

You are not alone Les. I have had my share of days (weeks where I feel like I'm wading through mud). The good news is eventually it does pass, and you'll have a period where things smooth out, before you hit the next mire. Such is the cycle I think. :) It sounds like you've been enjoying the Apologia? How intensive is it on the preperation for you before the lesson?

teri, i have not found it to be very intensive at all...there might be a night when i plan something ahead but there is just a lot of reading and notebooking. we really have enjoyed it and not found the content to be to mature.

Dioramas are the best--and how wonderful that it was a project for the entire family. Byoootiful.

And you can remember it by "My very.." What Dee said.

Leslie, that picture of Mitchell looking at the history book is too awesome. How cool when kids are absorbed in learning! Who knows what he is thinking and where it will lead him next? You rock!
