Meet our First Pets

With a little help from Ed Emberley, Avery made a picture for our new little guys so they would not forget their names. "Mom?", she asked, "Do fish know how to read?". That was a hard one to answer. In the end we established that maybe they do...but we could not really know because we have never been fish. Do you think she bought it?

They were both so excited. Right now i am the coolest mom on the planet!!!! But my sweet little Mitchell did not really understand that you could not hold or pet a fish. I was feeling a little guilty. From the look of these pictures it is a good thing he is not a cat or those fish might not last very long.
But the smell is what i think is going to repel him....he got a good sniff of goldfish water and thought it was completely gross!!!
So welcome Jupiter, Venus, Triton and Poseidon....may your life be long! Many thanks to our niece/cousin Julia who helped us with our names...they now go along with the theme of her new fish(Hermes and Neptune). What don't all families use a theme for naming all the "cousin" fish??

I adore their names! I used to have what was known as "goldfish graveyard" in my yard growing up. For the life of me, I couldn't keep a fish for more than a month before it would pass. our yard was strewn with buried margarine containers as I refused to flush the poor things!

lol! Do you think we can get Beth in on the cousin fish naming thing? Maybe she could name them Artemis or Athena. :)

Love the names! and the picture! and the "catness" of wanting the fish to come "play"!

We've had fish before. We've sort of moved on to wanting them to teach Tommy how to hunt in the wild. LOL

You are the coolest mom in the world (well, next to me, 'cause I do let them take the turtle for walks!

Awwwww. sweet! I can remember when we had goldfish one year and one of them died. I was so afraid it would leave my daughter heartbroken because she was so young. I ran to Wal Mart and bought another. She came home and right away knew something was different. It was bigger...ugh. I told her that it just had babies in her belly...right... Later..about three weeks later I had to find tiny gold fish to add so she would think her Momma fish had babies. It worked! If I can give any advise today...tell the truth! It's hard finding fish..ha!

Welcome to the family J,V,T & P! Olivia and Rachel love fish so I was contemplating on purchasing our own fish.... More cousin fish? I guess I would have to consult Julia on the names too lol

Oh wait I just saw Colleen's post... That's enough incentive for sure... Artemis and Athena it is and I think I might go get them this weekend. :P

Hannah and Isabel just made little fingerprint characters on pottery we painted the other day :)
Our betas(all deceased unfortunately) were Jean Valjean, Mr. Darcy and Rochester :) They'll love your fish names, Jim's been reading them greek myths...and just to plant a seed of hope, my mil had some goldfish they won at a harvest festival for like 3 or 4 years...they got to be 7 or 8 inches long :) she kept getting bigger aquariums ;)
